Optimization Metrics
Agencies are encouraged to reduce application, system, and database inventories to essential enterprise levels by
increasing the use of virtualization to enable pooling of storage, network and computer resources, and dynamic
allocation on-demand. There are 4 key metrics, namely Virtualization, Energy Metering, Availability, and Underutilized
Servers. More information can be found in the FAQ page.
Virtualization
Data center virtualization includes virtualizing physical servers in a data center facility, as well as storage, networks and
other infrastructure devices and equipment. The DCOI metric is the number of servers and mainframes.
- 28.51%
- Virtual Hosts
- 35,150
- Cloud Instances
- 14,434
- Servers
- 123,169

Energy Metering
Energy-use data can help you track long-term trends, benchmark progress and performance, perform diagnostics, and
alert data center operators to impending or ongoing system failures.
- 27.84%
- Have Metering
- 309
- Total Facilities
- 1,110

Availability
Availability is reported in DCOI in terms of the planned hours of availability for each data center, as well as any
unplanned outages for that data center over the reporting period, also measured in hours.
- 99.965%Uptime
- Unplanned Downtime Hours
- 772
- Total Hours
- 2,213,977

Underutilized Servers
Server utilization is the percentage of time during which the server is busy processing jobs during a simulation. The
DCOI metric is measured by the number of underutilized production servers in each data center
- 1.17%
- Underutilized
